Wax Museum Friday at Tunnel Hill Elementary

— Tracie Ellis’ third-grade class at Tunnel Hill Elementary is hosting a Wax Museum this Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the school’s cafeteria. Each student has taken on a new identity of a historical figure we have studied this year.

Parents are invited and will be browsing the “museum” and listening to different speeches at their leisure.

The 21 students, pretending to be wax figures, will stand still as a statue until someone pushes their “on button” and then they come to life.

The museum will be in the cafeteria. Visitors may walk around and listen to any or all historical figures that interest them.

Common Core Georgia Performance Standards for third grade cover nine historical figures, so all of those are included. They are Paul Revere, Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, Mary McLeod Bethune, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt, Thurgood Marshall, Lyndon B. Johnson and Cesar Chavez.

Students will also include other persons of interest they have read about this year, including Wilma Rudolph, Sarah Hale, Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Martin Luther King Jr., Thomas Edison, Pink and Say, and Rosa Parks.
