Coroner: Heart attack caused fatal wreck (Updated 5:25 p.m.)

A Chatsworth man who was involved in a single-car wreck early Tuesday morning on the North Dalton Bypass died from a “massive heart attack,” the Whitfield County coroner said.

“That’s what the doctors are saying,” Bobbie Dixon said of Olen Roberts, 52.

Dispatchers with 911 had received a report around 4:30 a.m. that a man was attempting to drive to Hamilton Medical Center with chest pains, the Dalton Police Department reported. Officers were told to be on the lookout for a red Honda Civic.

At 5:07 a.m., a witness saw a vehicle matching that description leave the road near Vista Drive and hit a tree. The witness told investigators the driver did not hit his brakes or attempt to move back onto the road before hitting the tree.

Dalton Police Department officers were investigating the wreck.
