The Murray Arts Council will hold a “pre-open house” tonight at 6:30 for the Murray Arts Center.
“It’s in downtown Chatsworth in the old Cohutta bank. The building itself is 98 years old,” said John Christian, a spokesman for the council. “We are going to offer classes in arts and music for youth as well as adults. We are looking for teachers. We have seven or eight rooms, so we can offer several things at the same time. We are going to have live events. We are going to build an outdoor stage on the lot next to us, so we can hold some larger events outdoors.”
Christian said the event tonight will give the community a chance to tour the building and give those interested in the programs a chance to sign up.
“I’m trying to collect as many artists as I can who are interested in teaching classes. We’ll also be offering early registration for classes, so people can sign up to take them,” he said. “As soon as we get open, around the first of December, we are going to offer Saturday workshops. They’ll give people a taste of things. Then in January we’ll offer full classes.”
The Murray Arts Center is at 121 Market St.
“We really want the public to come out and see what we’ll be doing,” Christian said.
