No one hurt in Mohawk fire (Updated at 2:40 p.m. on Thursday)

From Staff Reports

— No one was injured in a fire Wednesday afternoon at the Mohawk Industries extrusion plant at 2001 Antioch Road (the old Aladdin building).

The fire call came in at 4:20 p.m. The fire was contained, but the cause was not known, said Robert Webb, senior director for public affairs and corporate communications for Mohawk.

“We are relieved that no one was injured during the incident,” Webb said. “We are delighted with the fire department and their response time.”

Webb said there was “no significant structural damage.”

Webb added late Wednesday night, "After a thorough inspection of the facility's fiber extrusion equipment, engineers determined within hours that the process could resume safely. Cleanup continues, but the affected extrusion operations restarted around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday."

Mark Buckner, head of security and loss prevention for Mohawk, said the fire started in one of the storage areas. The building was evacuated.
