Obama to be in Chattanooga

President Barack Obama has never made a known visit to Dalton.

But on Tuesday, he will be a short ride away as he tours the Amazon fulfillment center in Chattanooga.

Obama will give the first in a series of policy speeches on the theme of “a better bargain for the middle class,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.

“Tuesday’s speech will focus on manufacturing and high wage jobs for durable economic growth, and the president will discuss proposals he has laid out to jumpstart private sector job growth and make America more competitive,” Carney said.

Obama visited Jacksonville, Fla., on Thursday. The broad economic themes Obama illustrated there will be followed up in the coming weeks by another series of speeches drilling down on key sectors such as manufacturing, education, housing, retirement security and health care. Advisers say some of those speeches will contain more specific policy proposals, both for legislation and executive action Obama can take without congressional approval.

The first of those addresses is to come Tuesday, when Obama will travel to Chattanooga to promote American competitiveness at the Amazon fulfillment center, which packs and ships products to online purchasers. The White House said some new policy ideas will be unveiled during that visit.
