Doug Phipps will be the new general manager at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center, Brett Huske, tourism director, said.

Phipps has been employed at the trade center for 16 years, most recently as director of operations.

“Doug’s vast knowledge of the trade center combined with his background in tourism makes him the perfect candidate for the position,” Huske said. “We look forward to Doug’s leadership as we transition to the next chapter of the (trade center).”

Phipps’ extensive hospitality experience includes more than 20 years with the Walt Disney World Co. in Orlando, Fla. Phipps was hired by the Creative Discovery Museum in Chattanooga during the project design phase and stayed to complete the implementation and start-up of the museum operation.

“I look forward to the exciting new direction for the (trade center) with Dalton State College and our pursuit of convention business,” said Phipps. “Our team is up for the challenge and we look forward to a good year in 2013 and beyond.”

The trade center opened in 1991.
