What began as an invitation to teach a girl how to ride horses ended in Darrell Lee Sullivan being sentenced to seven years in prison, officials said.
Sullivan was 38 and living at 2209 E. Emerson Road in Cohutta when he was charged in January 2011 by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with statutory rape, enticing a child for indecent purposes and child molestation for actions with a girl under the age of 16. Sullivan pleaded guilty before Judge Cindy Morris on Thursday to child molestation. The other charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal.
District Attorney Bert Poston said Sullivan was sentenced to seven years in prison and 13 years on probation and must abide by sex offender conditions, such as registering his address.
Sheriff’s office investigators said Sullivan was going to teach the girl how to ride horses, but a couple of months later, sexual acts started occurring.
