Gilmer County officials investigate rape

Sheriff: Person from Dalton was at party where attack occurred

The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a rape Saturday night at a cabin in Gilmer County during an alcohol-fueled party that involved about 25 people from Calhoun and one from Dalton, Sheriff Stacy Nicholson said in a statement.

No one had been charged as of early Thursday afternoon. Officials have not named anyone at the party.

On Sunday, the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a rape and began an investigation. Officials said the individuals at the party ranged in age from 18 to 20. The parents of one of the party-goers own the cabin.

“The report and statements from witnesses indicate that all, or at least nearly all, of the attendees were drinking alcohol and were intoxicated,” Nicholson said.
