Area road conditions (Updated 1:10 p.m.)

Ga. Highway 52 East is closed in Murray County due to the winter weather conditions.

Dalton Public Works Director Benny Dunn said most roads are passable in the city.

The Georgia State Patrol reported a wreck on Interstate 75 North near mile marker 350 but said traffic is expected to be moving again.

There were several wrecks on I-75 in Whitfield County earlier this morning, officials said.

Officials in Whitfield and Murray counties urged caution for anyone having to get out. Murray County Sole Commissioner Brittany Pittman said anyone who has to get out in the next few days should do so today since road conditions are expected to worsen in the coming days. Whitfield County Emergency Management Director Claude Craig urged motorists not to even get out today unless it’s necessary.

Officials in both counties said they plan to salt major roads tonight and have crews and equipment lined up to begin clearing major arteries as more snow is expected overnight.
