Restaurant report card — Whitfield County

The Daily Citizen

— Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit.

The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance with the regulations. Recent restaurant scores for all six counties within the North Georgia Health District are available at www.nghd.org.

Comments: Food stored under leaking line in walk-in freezer. To protect food from contamination, do not store under any leaking lines. Food handler with a bracelet. Wrist jewelry is not permitted. Wiping cloths on counter tops. Store cloths in sanitizer when not in hand. Ice scoop buried in ice. Do not store scoop in machines that produce ice.

Comments: Two boxes of chips were observed stored on floor of storage room. Multiple boxes of frozen food products were observed stored on walk-in freezer floor. Food must be kept at least 6 inches above floor to avoid contamination. The wrong inspection report, one with a higher grade, was posted instead of the most recent. The most recent, current inspection report must be posted for easy public view. A cup, with no handle, was being used as a scoop for parmesan cheese. Cup was left inside the container. All items used as scoops must have a handle and must not come in contact with food.

Wet cloths harbor bacteria. A container of shrimp was observed stored in a container in contact with ice. Shrimp was drained and ice removed. Do not store food in direct contact with ice to avoid contamination via ice.

Comments: Employee was observed not washing hands between glove change. She was also observed wearing the same gloves for multiple tasks such as cooking, cracking raw eggs and touching cooler and scoop handles with same gloves. Gloves must be changed between tasks, especially once they become contaminated. Hands must be washed between glove change. A large, deep container of beans was observed in walk-in cooler at less than 48 degrees that had been cooling since yesterday. Food must cool quickly to avoid danger zone and bacterial growth.

Comments: Owner was observed making several orders and charging at register, while never washing his hands. Hands must be washed when switching tasks and before prep — food or shakes. Multiple ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous foods in the top display cooler were found out of cold holding temperature. Potentially hazardous foods, ready-to-eat foods must be kept at less than 41 degrees when in cold holding. Cottage cheese was discarded and fruits moved to cooler reach-in unit. Cups of chili and cheese were found in reach-in cooler, but none were date marked. Date marking must be done when food is removed from original package.
