An argument in the student pickup line at North Murray High School Friday afternoon escalated when one man allegedly pulled a handgun on another person in line, officials said.
Randall Eugene Defore, 52, of 78 Mountain Trail Drive, Crandall, was charged Friday by the Murray County Sheriff’s Office with having a weapon in a school safety zone, disruption of a public school and terroristic threats.
Maj. Greg Fowler said another man asked Defore to move his vehicle so he could get by, and that request escalated into an argument in which Defore ended up pulling out a 9 mm pistol that he “waved around.” About 10 law enforcement officers were on the scene within minutes, Fowler said, and filed charges against Defore.
Fowler said no one inside the school was threatened, and no one involved in the incident was a student.
“All of it was there in the parking lot as parents were arriving to pick the students up in the afternoon,” Fowler said. “It was right there in front of the main building.”
