Restaurant report card — Whitfield County


— Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit.

The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance with the regulations. Recent restaurant scores for all six counties within the North Georgia Health District are available at www.nghd.org.



Chelsea’s on Thornton, 501 S. Thornton Ave.

Comments: Restroom door must be self-closing. Chipping paint in dry storage room must be fixed, leaving a smooth, easy, clean surface. Invert dishes and/or cover all food contact surfaces properly.

This is making hand washing inconvenient due to water on floor from leak. This may discourage food prep from washing hands. Problem must be fixed by tomorrow at 11 a.m. to avoid further issues that may discourage the food prep employee from properly washing hands. Restroom doors must be self-closing.

Comments: Do not stack containers until they have fully air dried. Corrected on site. Sanitizer in two cloth buckets was weak. New mix was made. Maintain sanitizer concentrations at 200 ppm for cloth buckets when using QAC. Employee was observed pulling a wet cloth from hamper containing soiled clothes. She claimed she had just put it in there, but took it back out to clean a table. She was asked to put cloth back in hamper. Do not use dirty cloths to clean tables or any other food contact surface. Always use clean cloth or one that is in a sanitizer solution if it has proper sanitizer strength. Corrected on site.



McDonald’s, 1210 Glenwood Ave.

Mr. T’s Pizza and Ice Cream, 831 N. Tibbs Road

Logan’s Roadhouse, 811 Walnut Square Blvd.

Comments: Sanitizer level in cloth buckets in grill area was too weak. Maintain 200 ppm for cloth buckets when using quat. ammonia. Food prep was wearing a bracelet. Hand/arm jewelry not allowed except for a solid ring band. Knife was stored in small space between prep cooler lids where buildup was visible. Do not store utensils in areas that are not easily cleaned and contain buildup. Wet stacking observed in drying racks when plastic containers were seen stacked and still wet. Allow air drying before stacking.



Dalton Depot, 110 Depot St.

Comments: Ceiling tiles need to be replaced and/or cleaned. Clean utensils in basket need to face the same direction to protect lip. Meats and cheese were discarded when it was discovered that their disposition date had passed. Check dates daily and discard after seven-day limit is met. Food dicer has not been properly washed. The buildup made the two pieces stick and made it very difficult to take apart. Had only been rinsed with bleach water. Piece was taken apart to wash. Equipment must be taken apart and go through the three-step cycle: wash, rinse and sanitize. Do this at least every day or more based on use. Employee was observed dipping knife into cloth sanitizing bucket and then wiped with wiping cloth. Cloth bucket is only for cloths used to clean kitchen surfaces. All utensils must be washed, rinsed and sanitized in three-compartment sink. Knife was placed in sink to wash.



Waffle House, 1527 W. Walnut Ave.

Comments: No hand soap was available at hand sink in kitchen and paper towels were missing from the women’s restroom. All hand sinks must be supplied at all times with soap and paper towels. Sanitizer level did not register in either sanitizer pan. Cloth pans must maintain a level of 100 ppm when using chlorine. Always check with test strips. Corrected on site. Chili in hot hold was out of temperature and was held for greater than four hours. Chili was discarded. Corrected on site. Eggs stored above grill did not contain a time sticker to indicate when the eggs were removed from temperature control. Eggs were still in the mid-40s so they were placed in cooler. Always record time on eggs to show when they were removed from temperature control. Egg must not go above 70 degrees. Three cartons of hash browns were stored in a tray at the bottom of reach-in cooler that also held dirty water from a leak in cooler. Cartons were wet. Discarded. Do not store any food on bottom of cooler. Keep all food away from leak and have leak repaired. Floor tiles missing from kitchen floor. Repair needed.
