Police: Drunk man charged with stealing condiments from fast-food chain

Authorities arrested a man they said they found passed out drunk at a Long John Silver’s with a stolen bottle of Heinz malt vinegar in his pocket.

According to an incident report, after someone called to complain, Dalton police responded to the fish eatery on Walnut Avenue to find the man asleep in a booth Monday evening. When they searched him and found a bottle of Heinz 57 vinegar in his pocket that belonged to the restaurant, he said, “I guess I was going to take it,” according to the report.

The man, Billy Ray Rogers, 51, of 2000 Marran Drive, Rocky Face, was charged Tuesday by the Dalton Police Department with theft by taking and public drunkenness. His blood alcohol level registered .269 once he was taken to the Whitfield County jail, according to the report. He has since been released.

Efforts to reach Rogers were unsuccessful.
