From Staff Reports
Area students are having quite a winter break.
Dalton Public Schools, Whitfield County Schools and Murray County Schools are closed today due to the lingering effects of dangerous winter weather, school officials said.
This is the third consecutive day of cancellations for each school system. Students in Whitfield and Murray have now missed six full days this year, including today, after closings during last month’s icy weather that impacted much of the state. Students in Dalton schools have missed five full days.
Because the cancellations ran into Dalton schools’ mid-winter break, students won’t return until Wednesday, Feb. 19. Students are on break Friday, Monday and Tuesday.
Whitfield and Murray school officials said they will announce today if Friday classes will be held. Makeup days, if any, will be discussed at a later time, school officials said.
