Dalton man killed in wreck in Florida

From Staff Reports

— A Dalton man died Thursday after a motorcycle accident in Daytona Beach, Fla., according to a news report and a funeral home obituary.

Charles Jimmy Owenby, 72, died in the crash and his wife, 59-year-old Rebecca Mae Owenby was listed in serious condition at Florida Hospital Flagler, according to www.newsdaytonabeach.com.

The website reported the Florida Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred at about 2:25 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 95.

“Troopers state that a 2013 Harley-Davidson driven by ... Charles Jimmy Owenby was in the right travel lane of I-95 southbound when he somehow lost control and veered off the road into the western grass shoulder area,” according to www.newsdaytonabeach.com. “Investigators believe the bike kept going on the grass until it struck some trees along the roadway, at which point he was thrown off his bike. So was his passenger, 59-year-old Rebecca Mae Owenby. The Owenbys — both from Dalton, Ga. — were tossed onto the grass as the bike landed in a water-filled ditch, according to FHP’s report.”

Arrangements will be announced by Ponders Melrose Chapel in Dalton.
