Police seek suspects in Academy Sports theft

The Dalton Police Department is asking for the public’s help with identifying two suspects who stole more than $1,000 worth of electronics from the Academy Sports and Outdoors store on Shugart Road.

The merchandise included a GPS unit and several wild game hunting cameras.

The incident happened at about 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 31. The suspects, a white male and a white female who both appeared to be in their late 30s or early 40s, entered the store separately and met inside.

The male suspect took the electronic items in a stack of clothes which he took into a fitting room. When he left the fitting room, he had the electronics out of their packaging, and the female suspect stuffed them into her large pink purse.

They left the store separately. As the male suspect tried to leave the store with a stolen leather bag he was stopped by management. After telling the store manager that his wife had purchased the bag and that he would get the receipt, he left the bag behind and the pair left the parking lot in an older maroon two-door sedan. The car might have been a Buick Regal.

The male suspect wore a gray polo shirt and a black Nike baseball cap and had a clean-shaved head and appears to be in his 40s. The female suspect wore a white tank top and jeans and was either in her late 30s or early 40s.

Anyone with information on this incident or the identity of the suspects is asked to please contact Detective Matthew Lowery at (706) 278-9085, ext. 133.
