Burglary of someone’s residence, also known as first-degree burglary, is a felony that carries a penalty of one to 20 years in prison.

According to 16-7-1 of the Georgia Code, second and third first-degree burglary convictions result in escalating consequences with the maximum being 25 years.

Second-degree burglary involves places other than homes and carries a penalty of one to five years for the first offense. Second and subsequent offenses can be punished by up to eight years in prison.
