Hamilton’s Love Lights shine Monday

Submitted by the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation

— The community is invited to attend the 30th annual lighting celebration of Hamilton Medical Center’s Love Light Trees on Monday evening. The lighting ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. at Hamilton Medical Center in the Bandy Parking Plaza on the corner of Memorial and Broadrick drives.

Refreshments will be served and holiday music will be provided by the Varnell Voices directed by Tricia Jennings and the Dalton Middle School Glee Club directed by Debbie Autry.

The Whitfield Healthcare Foundation, Hamilton’s fundraising arm, and The Daily Citizen together co-sponsor this holiday fundraising program. Hamilton’s Love Light Trees are a symbol of our community’s concern for quality health care. Since 1983, this program has raised more than $525,000 to enhance Hamilton Medical Center’s patient care programs.

“Giving to the hospital through the Love Light Trees program offers a wonderful way to honor or remember special people in our lives during the holiday season, whether it be a family member, friend, physician or co-worker,” said Robert Smalley, chairman of the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation.

“Each light added to the trees is a symbol of love and affection for family members and friends. It is exciting to watch the tree grow brighter as the season progresses because we know that the contributions will enhance the level of care Hamilton provides to the Dalton community,” said Smalley.

All 2012 Love Lights are designated to benefit Hamilton Hospice. Hamilton Hospice is Whitfield County’s only community-supported, not-for-profit hospice, committed to providing compassionate end-of-life care for individuals and families touched by life-limiting illnesses regardless of the ability to pay, says Bo Calloway, director of Hamilton Hospice. “Your contributions will help support and enhance the level of care Hamilton Hospice provides to the Dalton community.”

For a minimum contribution of $10 to the foundation, a light is added to the Love Light Trees atop Hamilton Medical Center. A gift of $100 designates a “Star” light, and a $500 gift designates an “Angel.” Lights are added to the trees throughout the holiday season, and the names of those so honored or remembered, as well as those making the contributions, are listed in The Daily Citizen’s Sunday editions during December.

For each thoughtful gift made, the foundation mails an acknowledgment card to those honored or to the family of those memorialized notifying them of the tribute light donation.  Contributions to the foundation are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Contribution forms may be picked up at Hamilton Medical Center, The Daily Citizen and the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce. Contributions may be made online by visiting Hamilton’s website,, or by contacting the foundation office at (706) 272-6128.
