Dalton police seek theft suspect

The Dalton Police Department is investigating the theft of a pickup truck and is asking for help from the public with identifying a man who was driving the vehicle after it was stolen.

The truck was stolen from an apartment complex at 216 Easterling St. sometime between 10 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, and 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20. The truck, a red 2005 Chevy Silverado with a red camper top, was apparently left unlocked. The truck had approximately $1,100 worth of tools and equipment inside including a pressure washer, air compressor and an electrical generator.

The truck was recovered in Chattanooga where it was parked behind a gas station on Shallowford Road. Dalton Police Department investigators determined that the truck was abandoned there with a flat tire by a white male on Jan. 23. The suspect apparently asked the store owner if he could park it there while he went to get help. He never returned and after two days the store owner had the truck towed away. The towing company contacted the Chattanooga Police Department which ran the tag number and determined it was stolen. The vehicle was returned to its owners, but the tools and equipment inside were missing.

The subject is a white male who wore a red baseball cap backwards inside the store. Anyone with information on this man is asked to please contact Detective Sam Eaton at (706) 278-9085, ext. 158.
