North Murray High School was represented well by some of its best students competing against other students in the 2013 Georgia High School Literary Meet recently.
After months of preparation, the students went to show off their work in the essay and chorus divisions at Calhoun First Baptist Church. In the chorus division, a women’s trio — students Nicole Densmore, Nori White and Tanessa Green — took the stage. A men’s quartet that included Joseph Beal, Chris Champion, Seth Peden and Jordan Wilson went on next.
In the essay division, North Murray was represented by Sarah Seeman, Ethan Hart, Rachel Kepley, Hannah Stanley and Jacob Hickman. Hickman was the first place winner in the Georgia High School AAA division.
“I felt calm on the surface but I was scared deep down,” Hickman said about his experience.
Literary adviser and English teacher Joe Ballew said Hickman’s performance was “outstanding.”
“The runner-up in boy’s essay had a (grade of) 99,” he said. “Which meant Jacob needed a 100 to win. I am so happy for Jacob. He earned his victory.”
