Interstate wreck kills one

From Staff Reports

— One woman is dead and another person injured from a wreck that occurred on Interstate 75 South Tuesday night.

Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Tracey Watson said the crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. near mile marker 313 in Gordon County when a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer drove off the road into a ditch, hitting a guardrail and traffic sign support.

“The passenger in the vehicle, Nona Viola Sheppard, 54, of Resaca, died,” Watson said. “The driver of the car, Roger Hugh Duke, 69, of Resaca, was injured and taken to Hamilton Medical (Center) by ground.”

A Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash, and charges are pending, Watson said.
