A Chattanooga man whose girlfriend had broken up with him earlier in the day faces charges related to coming to her Dalton home and hitting her in the head with a gun, according to reports.
Kurt Marshall Painter, 28, of 503 Blue Jay Road, Chattanooga, was charged Thursday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with aggravated assault with a gun, two counts of terroristic threats and acts, burglary (forced entry, dwelling), felony theft by conversion and harassing phone calls. A jail officer said Painter posted $10,000 bond Thursday evening. A phone number for Painter could not be found.
According to an incident report, the Dalton woman he is accused of assaulting said Painter came to her home after she broke up with him earlier in the day and refused to leave when she asked him to.
The report states the woman then pointed a 9-mm gun belonging to someone else at Painter, but her sister arrived on a bus about the same time he was making threats to “take somebody you love away from you.” So she laid the gun down and went to her sister instead. When she came back inside, Painter had the weapon.
The report states the woman had a laceration to her left ear, and Painter later admitted to an investigator that he hit her. He is accused of stealing the weapon and her cellphone.
