DALTON — • Harvest Night at Shadow Ridge Worship Center with Ronnie Phillips Jr. is Sunday at 6:30 p.m. with the senior associate pastor of evangelism/outreach of Abba’s House in Hixson, Tenn. Pastor Phillips will be sharing how God changed his life. Call 706-694-4400 for more information.

• Mount Vernon United Methodist Church is having an Easter egg hunt Saturday, April 3, from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be crafts, games and inflatables at the new Family Life Center.

A light lunch will follow an Easter message from Pastor Owen Skinner.

The public is asked to bring a dozen pre-stuffed Easter eggs.

•A pre-Easter, gospel music quartet concert will be at Bethel AME Church Saturday, March 27, at 6 p.m.

Special guests will include Phillip Burse and the New Golden Trumpets, Glorious Tones, Gospel Song Birds, The Disciple and the Bethel Male Chorus.

Fish and chicken dinners and sandwiches will be on sale beginning at 5 p.m.

The church is at 620 Spring St.

• Five Springs United Methodist Church will hold a talent show Sunday, March 28, at 5 p.m.

The church is at 2823 Five Springs Road, Dalton.

• Dawnville United Methodist Church will have its food pantry open today from 9 a.m. to noon. There is no charge for the food. The pantry will be open the third Saturday of the month.

The Youth Group meets every Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The church will observe Maundy Thursday on April 1 at 7 p.m. On Easter, April 4, there will be a sunrise service at 7 a.m. United Methodist Men will prepare breakfast following the service. Worship starts at 11 a.m. and the church choir will present special music.

The congregation will decorate a cross with flowers that will be placed outside the church.

  • Civil War anniversary: The Battle of Crow Valley, May 9-12, 1864

    The Atlanta Campaign began during the first two weeks of May 1864 in and around Dalton. Union Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman’s strategy was to target two of his armies, about 80,000 men, against Confederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston’s Army of Tennessee at Dalton. Then, while Johnston’s attention was diverted by these forces, he would secretly send his third army, about 25,000 troops under Maj. Gen. James B. McPherson, in a flanking movement to the southwest through Snake Creek Gap. Sherman’s goal was to break Johnston’s railroad supply line some 15 miles south at Resaca and trap Johnston’s Confederates in Dalton.
