Restaurant report card — Whitfield County


— Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit.

The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance with the regulations. Recent restaurant scores for all six counties within the North Georgia Health District are available at www.nghd.org.



Pizza Hut, 1525 Cleveland Highway

McDonald’s at Walmart, 2545 E. Walnut Ave.

Observed employee pour dirty bucket of water into sanitizing compartment of three-compartment sink. Pour soiled water into floor sink. Flies.



Captain D’s, 1236 Glenwood Ave.

Comments: Two containers of green beans were observed in walk-in cooler. The containers were covered and sat in a larger container that served as an ice bath. The green beans were found out of temperature due to improper cooling; had been cooling for four hours. The method of the ice bath while in walk-in cooler is correct, but the containers should have been left uncovered while cooling. Also, stir often to release heat at bottom of container. Corrected on site. Plastic containers were observed stacked tight before they had air dried completely. Allow containers to fully air dry before stacking tightly. The trapped water in containers may harbor bacteria. Containers were separated for proper drying.



Kenny’s Restaurant, 1022 Riverbend Road

La Michoacana 100% Natural, 816 Walnut Square Blvd., Suite 30

Comments: Observed food in both reach-in coolers stored uncovered. All foods must be stored covered to prevent contamination. Observed cooked shrimp removed from original container without a discard date. Date marking is required when potentially hazardous foods are removed from the original container or when the original container is opened. Observed unopened bottles of corn syrup with no labels. All packaged food shall be labeled. Did not observe thermometers in reach-in coolers. All coolers are required to have accurate thermometers.

When not in hand, cloths are required to be submerged in sanitizer of correct strength. Replace torn gaskets. Replace damaged ceiling tiles and floor tiles. Clean walls and floors.

Drinks must be in single-service cup with lid and straw. No paper towels at front sink. Paper towels are required for proper hand drying. Employee failed to sanitize utensils/equipment after washing. All food contact items must be properly sanitized. Several potentially hazardous foods in walk-in are not date marked. Put open/use-by date on all potentially hazardous foods in coolers. Sanitizer in buckets greater than 200 ppm. Maintain 100 ppm. Keep Dumpster lid down.
