The Dalton City Council voted 3-0 Monday afternoon to approve an amendment to the 2013 budget that accounts for some $1.2 million in state and federal grants it has received for runway improvements at Dalton Municipal Airport.
The city will use the money to acquire property near the airport to clear trees that are interfering with the instrument landing system. The city’s share of the costs will be $60,550.
Council member George Sadosuk was absent, and Mayor David Pennington votes only in the event of a tie.
Council members also voted 3-0 to:
• Approve a $65,322.24 contract with Northwest Georgia Paving for milling of Abutment Road. The funding will come from state funds to repave that road. Abutment Road was chosen for repaving based on a state formula and the condition of the road.
• Approve a $92,230 change order for the new artificial turf at Lakeshore Park. The original plan was to place new turf on the soccer field at Lakeshore. The change order expands the amount of turf by covering everything inside the running track.
• Approve a conditional easement for Christian Heritage School to use part of city right of way along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Public Works Director Benny Dunn said the school could use part of that right of way for parking but the city maintains the right to the right of way should it ever need it.
• Approve the exchange of an easement on wooded property near West Hill Cemetery to Internal Management in exchange for property on the southwest corner of the cemetery. City officials said Internal Management plans to build a mausoleum near the cemetery and needs the easement for that project.
