Instructor posts bond

A man accused of sending inappropriate messages and photos to a former student by phone has posted $15,000 bond, officials said.

William “Billy” Roger Newcom, 38, of 81 Hope Drive, Rock Spring, was charged May 10 by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with one felony count of computer or electronic pornography and child exploitation prevention. Authorities said Newcom, who taught gymnastics at the Creative Arts Guild more than a year ago, tried to get a now 15-year-old student to meet him for sex.

A phone number for Newcom could not be found, and it wasn’t immediately clear whether he had an attorney.
