Spring forward tonight

Daylight saving time means students walking to school or getting on and off school buses Monday morning may be less visible. Because of the lack of morning light from “springing forward” an hour, school officials are asking morning commuters to be extra vigilant when driving.

Belinda Parrish, director of transportation for Dalton Public Schools, said drivers should be especially proactive to look for students, mostly elementary-aged, who will be crossing the road to their school if they live within walking distance.

People should drive slow, avoid “hugging” curves and make sure their headlights are functioning properly to reduce the risk of being caught unaware by someone crossing the road, school officials added.

“Drivers need to be conscious,” Parrish said. “Watch for our students.”
