Strut Your Mutt coming up

The Humane Society of Northwest Georgia extends an invitation to “Strut Your Mutt” on Sunday, April 27, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Dalton Green.

The annual fundraiser helps provide care for the many homeless adoptable cats and dogs in our community, and to educate and bring awareness to humans on proper care and treatment of animals as well as spay/neuter programs.

There is no charge and you do not need a “mutt” to come mingle, observe and enjoy the event. You can always Rent-A-Rover for a donation and help give foster “mutts” a fun afternoon.

The entry fee which includes the Strut walk, all contests your canine wishes to enter, T-shirt and a goody bag, is $25 if received by April 23. After that date and on day of the event the fee is $30. Registration forms are available from veterinarians and groomers throughout the community, at the Adoption Center at 1703 Cleveland Highway on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m, on Facebook and on the website hsnwga.org.

Entrants must show proof of the dog’s current vaccinations (rabies tag). No dogs in heat or aggressive dogs will be allowed, dogs must be at least six months old, dogs must be kept on leashes at all times, except during certain contests. No retractable leashes for safety reasons.

Those who would like to raise money for the care of shelter dogs and cats may do so by pledging support. Just obtain a form, ask people for a pledge, collect the money and return to the Humane Society either by mail or turn it in on the day of the event. Checks should be made payable to HSNWGA.

The Strut walk will parade from Dalton Green through town returning to the park. Contests will be judged, with first, second and third places awarded for:

• Best Dressed.

• Best Kisser.

• K-9 Musical Sit.

• Smallest Dog.

• Largest Dog.

• Most Talented.

• Wagginist Tail.

Vendors/merchants from throughout our community will have displays. If you are interested in vendor participation visit hsnwga.org for additional information and vendor registration forms.

Concessions will be available, raffles and a silent auction of many great items/services will be offered. At Central Bark, activities will be ongoing throughout the day, such as Bone Toss, Bobbing for Burgers, Gummy Worm Hunt, a (Dog) Cake Walk, face painting and a pie toss.

The rain date will be Sunday, May 4, at 1:30 p.m..
