Rape charge follows online connection

A Dalton man was arrested Friday and charged with rape from a warrant issued in March, Dalton Police Department officials said.

An incident report stated Zachary Alan Henry, 27, of 401 Williams Road, was charged with “rape strongarm,” threatening to use or using physical force against someone without a weapon.

On March 26 at 7:57 p.m., a police officer responded to a call that someone was causing a disturbance, according to an incident report provided by the police department. The report stated the caller said a woman was walking around a local parking lot saying “Please, help me” repeatedly. When a police officer arrived and talked to the woman, she claimed she’d been held captive for several hours at a local hotel and raped twice by Henry, according to the report.

The woman and Henry met online in February, police said. Bruce Frazier, spokesman for the police department, said their online relationship wasn’t necessarily romantic but that the woman agreed to ride with Henry to the hotel.

After the police were notified, officers watched the hotel room, the report started, but Henry never returned.

A separate incident report said Henry was arrested early Friday when an officer recognized his green Dodge Dakota pickup truck outside the same hotel and found Henry talking to a clerk in the hotel lobby. Henry went with police without resistance, the second report stated.

Officials said Henry, who is currently in jail, is set to appear in Superior Court next week for a bond hearing.
