No decision yet on snow makeup days

Dalton Public Schools officials did not announce a decision on makeup days Friday. A decision will likely be made Monday, school officials said.

The Georgia state school board voted Thursday to allow local school leaders to decide how to handle school days lost during winter weather last week and in late January.

School officials can now forego as many as nine missed school days. The state Department of Education typically requires schools to be open at least 180 days, though some systems can get waivers to have a shorter school year.

Whitfield County Schools and Murray County Schools systems are on break this week and phone messages left with officials with each system were not returned late Friday.
