Dalton man indicted for alleged child sex crimes

A Whitfield County grand jury recently indicted a 67-year-old man for aggravated sexual battery and child molestation.

Jerry Dwight Rollins of 485 Beaverdale Road, Dalton, turned himself in at the Whitfield County jail on Thursday and was released the same day on $25,000 bond, officials said.

Reached Friday evening, Rollins declined comment and referred questions to his attorney, Richard Murray. Attempts to reach Murray Friday evening weren’t immediately successful.

District Attorney Bert Poston didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking information on when the crimes are alleged to have been committed and how Rollins knew the child he is accused of molesting.

Poston has said in the past that ethical guidelines for prosecutors prevent him from publicly discussing pending cases in detail.
