Area Arrests for Nov. 1

• Stuart Lynn Allen, 34, 117 Cochran Drive, Dalton, was charged Tuesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with possession of methamphetamine and conspiracy.

• Kevin Keith Bilbrey, 41, 1274 Presley Road, was charged Tuesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with possession of tools for the commission of a crime, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, use of community facility in committing an act of felony, habitual violator and conspiracy.

• Brian Keith Blalock, 34, 120 Ola Drive, Cohutta, was charged Tuesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with two counts of possession of methamphetamine, habitual felon, possession of firearms by convicted felons, use of a community facility in committing an act of felony, and conspiracy.

• Julian Maben Bowie, 45, 325 Mercer Drive, Dalton, was charged Tuesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with possession of marijuana, use of a community facility in committing an act of felony, conspiracy to commit a crime, and distribution of marijuana.

• Chris Anthony Callahan, 36, 5481 Smyrna Church Road, Chatsworth, was charged Tuesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with possession of controlled substances, theft by taking, theft by conversion, conspiracy, and use of a community facility in committing a crime.

• Carie Nicole Cooper, 27, 2327 Kittle Road, Dalton, was charged Tuesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with possession of Testosterone Enantato, use of community facilities in committing an act of felony, and conspiracy.

• James Allen Elkins Jr., 43, 217 Roberts Drive, Dalton, was charged Tuesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with traffic in methamphetamine, use of a community facility in committing an act of felony, possession of methamphetamine, possession of Diazepam, and conspiracy.

• Robert Caleb Harris, 26, 1908 Hardwick, Dalton, was charged Tuesday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with possession of controlled substances, use of a community facility in the commission of a crime, conspiracy and theft by receiving stolen property.

  • Civil War anniversary: The Battle of Crow Valley, May 9-12, 1864

    The Atlanta Campaign began during the first two weeks of May 1864 in and around Dalton. Union Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman’s strategy was to target two of his armies, about 80,000 men, against Confederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston’s Army of Tennessee at Dalton. Then, while Johnston’s attention was diverted by these forces, he would secretly send his third army, about 25,000 troops under Maj. Gen. James B. McPherson, in a flanking movement to the southwest through Snake Creek Gap. Sherman’s goal was to break Johnston’s railroad supply line some 15 miles south at Resaca and trap Johnston’s Confederates in Dalton.
