Dalton to host Police and Fire Games this week

Submitted by the Dalton Police Department

— Police officers and firefighters from agencies across Georgia will be coming to Dalton this week for the 2012 Georgia Police and Fire Games. The games will take place around Dalton and Whitfield County starting on Monday and ending Saturday. Admission to the various games is free and members of the public are invited to come cheer on officers and firefighters at the events.

Police officers and firefighters will compete as individuals or in teams in various events such as softball, golf, basketball, cycling, a 5K race and others. There are also “toughest cop” and “toughest firefighter” competitions which will consist of obstacle courses designed with different law enforcement or firefighting activities.

Events are being coordinated by the Dalton Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Dalton Parks and Recreation Department and also representatives from the Dalton police and fire departments. Last year, the event brought more than 400 officers and firefighters to Dalton.

This is the second year that Dalton has hosted the games. For more information, including a schedule of events and their locations, visit www.gapoliceandfiregames.com.
