Whitfield County restaurant reports


— Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit.

The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance with the regulations. Recent restaurant scores for all six counties within the North Georgia Health District are available at www.nghd.org.



Dalton-Whitfield Senior Center, 302 Cappes St.

Comments: Buckets of limes and sacks of corn flour were observed on floor of kitchen. Foods must be kept at least 6 inches above floor to avoid contamination.

Comments: Beef patties were observed in small freezer by grill, out of bag without protection from contamination. Cover all stored food for protection. Corrected on site. Test strips were available, but the containers with color code were not available for confirmation of accurate concentration of sanitizers. Order test strips from supplier ASAP. Recommend to use time for cheese held in ice bath to ensure control time if temperature were to fail.



Schlotzsky’s Deli, 1325 W. Walnut Ave.

Comments: Stored pastry balls in prep cooler were observed not covered while stored. Cover all stored foods to avoid contamination. Sanitize levels in buckets and sink were recorded at 400 ppm — toxic level. Sanitizer levels when using QAT: 200 ppm for cloth buckets; 100 ppm for sanitizer sink. In-use knife was observed stored on top of equipment that held food debris. Store in-use utensils on clean, dry surfaces to avoid contamination. Knife was removed and exchanged for clean one. Surface cleaned.



Tijuana’s Restaurant, 328 S. Hamilton St.

Comments: Employees observed wearing gloves and touching dirty cloths and then reaching for food and touching utensil handles. Employee caught before touching food. Employees must wash hands between tasks especially after handling contaminated/soiled equipment, utensils and cloths. Wear clean gloves before handling food.



The Coffee Train, 109 N. Pentz St.

Comments: ServSafe has expired. Each establishment must have a Certified Food Safety Manager on staff designated for this establishment only. Food has not been disposed of after the seven-day maximum time limit. Chicken salad and salad with diced tomatoes were observed in prep cooler more than seven days old. Food was discarded. Coffee stirrers were observed without protection from contamination. They are not individually wrapped or dispensed. Protect stirrers from contamination by dispensing/wrapped individuals.



Jersey Mike’s Subs, 1367 W. Walnut Ave.

Comments: Tuna and chicken salad in deli cooler were observed out of temperature. Discard. The tomatoes (sliced) on top prep cooler were also out of temperature. Discard. Use time as a control when appropriate temperature can’t be maintained. Food may be used out of temperature for a maximum of four hours. Times MUST be recorded. Maintain foods in cold holding at 41 degrees or less. Bags of cooked meatballs and chicken, as well as container of cheese, were observed in walk-in cooler without date markings. Food lasting more than 24 hours must be date marked once the original container is opened. Educational materials on subject was provided. Inspection was not displayed for public view. It was found in a drawer. Inspections must be displayed at all times for public view. Cups were found in containers to be used as scoops. All scoops must have a handle and must be kept out of contact with food.



Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, 1307 Dug Gap Road

Comments: Milk at 47.3 degrees. Hold potentially hazardous food at 41 degrees or below. Corrected on site. Wiping cloths sitting on countertops. Submerge cloths in sanitizer when not in hand. Dip well must be running if utensils are in it. Quat test required. Flies. All windows must be fully self-closing.
