Restaurant report card — Whitfield County


— Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants every three months. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit.

The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance with the regulations.

Can be protected by covering with a lid or placing them in a drawer. Small plate was being used as a scoop. Scoops are required to have handles to minimize contact with food. Handle must remain out of contact with food. Restroom door must be fully self-closing.

Comments: Two scoops were observed with their handles in contact with the salt and garlic. Scoop handles must be out of the product so as to be pulled out without the hand coming into contact with the product. Person observed handling different tasks without changing gloves. Gloves must be changed, washing hands between glove change when moving to different tasks. Many gaskets in bad condition were observed in coolers throughout the kitchen. Gaskets must remain in good, clean condition. Change cloth used under the cutting board when it becomes dirty to avoid contamination. Repair door leaking outside to back so that it seals/close correctly and fitting to frame.

Comments: Numerous dented cans were found on shelf. Damaged cans must be segregated. Wiping cloths observed out of the sanitizer bucket when not in use. Keep cloths in bucket at appropriate strength (100 ppm) when not in use. Leak was observed from the hot water handle into three-compartment sink. Repair leak.

Dent-damaged cans must be separated from cans in good condition. Some containers observed without proper labeling. All bulk agricultural products must be labeled when removed from original containers. Wet stacking was observed. Must dry utensils before stacking. Improper use of gloves observed in kitchen. Gloves must be changed when changing tasks. Hands must be washed between glove change. Dumpster observed without plug. Plug needs to be in place. Floors need to be replaced (repaired) and clean.

Comments: Food must be separated to prevent contamination. Eggs and meat were stored on top of ready to eat food. Always put eggs on bottom and do not put raw meat over ready to eat and potentially hazardous food. Multiple chemical bottles were not labeled. Labels must be placed on bottles when chemicals are out of original container.

Comments: Multiple personal drinks were observed throughout the kitchen in re-usable cups. All personal drinks must be in single service cup with lid and straw. Non-food grade gloves containing “dusting powder” used when handling food. Powdered gloves, for food contact, should be powdered with cornstarch or use non-powdered gloves. Taco shells and tortilla chips were observed without a cover under a busy work station. Clean plates and pans were observed not protected from contamination. Clean items must be inverted. Person observed touching dirty cloth and then handling food. Gloves must be changed after coming into contact with contaminated surfaces.



Peachtree Estates, 1300 Waugh St.

Comments: Gallons of milk with homestyle refrigerator were out of temperature. Ensure that potentially hazardous food is stored in equipment that can maintain food an adequate temperature. Items in reach-in cooler were out of date. Out of date food must be discarded. Toxic item found next to food contact surface. All non-food grade chemicals must be segregated from food or food contact surfaces. Employee was observed rinsing gloves between tasks. Gloves should be changed when switching tasks. Remember to wash hands between glove changes.
