Dalton Public Schools staff and members of the Dalton Board of Education will honor outgoing board members Mark Orr and Steve Williams at a reception before the regular board meeting on Monday at 6 p.m. at City Hall. A brief ceremony will begin at 6:15 p.m. to highlight their contributions and years of service to the students and staff of Dalton Public Schools. The meeting is schedule for 6:30 p.m.
Orr has served on the board since January 1998 and is a graduate of Dalton High School. He earned a bachelor’s of science degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology. The majority of his career experience is in the textiles industry and he is currently in sales with a company in the same industry. One of his children currently attends Dalton Public Schools and another is a 2008 Dalton High graduate. Orr has served four terms on the board and has been vice-chairman since 2002. He has been instrumental in working with the district’s facility committees throughout his tenure on the board.
Williams began his service on the board in January 2002. He served as chairman of the board from 2004 through 2011. Williams has a bachelor’s of arts degree in accounting and a law degree from the University of Georgia. For more than two decades, he has been involved in the area’s legal community as assistant district attorney, district attorney of the Conasauga Circuit and in a private practice. His children graduated from Dalton Public Schools. Williams has been known as a strong supporter of the international baccalaureate program at Dalton High.
