Westside and Varnell precinct voters in Whitfield County will have an extra 30 minutes to cast their ballots at today’s primary.
That’s the result of slight irregularities which initially caused electronic ballots for the Varnell and Westside precincts earlier this morning to function improperly and were corrected within 30 minutes. Officials were aware of the problem immediately, and voters were given paper ballots to use until the problem was corrected.
Voter Registrar Mary Hammontree emphasized that no votes were lost, but in an abundance of caution, and by Superior Court order in accordance with state law the voting hours at those two precincts are extended by 30 minutes. Polls there close at 7:30 p.m.
No other precincts were affected.
