Fugitive caught in Dalton set for July trial

A woman arrested in Dalton late last year after authorities said she had been on the run since 1995 for her role in a Pennsylvania murder is scheduled to go to trial in July.

According to records from the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania, Tonya Nickole Dice, who had been living in Dalton as Jessica Lynn Keil, is set for trial on July 8. She faces charges of criminal homicide and hindering apprehension/prosecution in the death of Freddie Walte Brumfield Jr.

Authorities there have said the woman told them she saw the murder, and she confessed in 1995 to cleaning up the blood from the scene. She was scheduled back then to appear in court on a drug charge, but instead fled and managed to stay in hiding using various names, officials said.

Officials said her efforts at adopting a child left a trail of evidence that helped the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, with help from several law enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania and Georgia, finally locate her. She was arrested at her home on Glenwood Avenue in Dalton across from the American Legion on Dec. 20 and extradited.

Court records show she posted $500,000 bail in February and received a continuance for her trial until July.

Her attorney, Ian Michael Brink of the Franklin County Public Defender’s Office, did not immediately return several phone calls.
