From Staff Reports
Several roads in Whitfield and Murray counties became problematic for drivers Sunday afternoon when heavy showers passed through the areas bringing flash flooding with them.
The only road in the two areas that was closed was Willowdale at Crow Valley in Dalton, a place that often floods when there’s several inches of rain in a short period of time, according to a Whitfield County 911 operator. It reopened later Sunday evening.
In Murray County there was some flooding on Ga. Highway 225 South near Fire Station No. 5, said a 911 operator there. If any other areas had major problems, they were not reported to 911, she said.
A river flood warning for Coahulla Creek at Keith Mill Road in southern Whitfield County has been issued by the National Weather Service in Peachtree City “until further notice.” At 6:30 p.m. Sunday the river was at 15.2 feet, and flooding begins at 16 feet.
