A Dalton man was denied bond Monday in Whitfield County Magistrate Court after Dalton police charged him with hitting a man on the head with a handgun and trying to rob him last November.
Samithy Wayne McHenry, 32, of 116 Hopkins Way, was picked up on a warrant Sunday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office and charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault. The police department worked the incident when it allegedly happened on Nov. 15.
According to an incident report, McHenry saw a man getting out of his vehicle on Hagen Street, went up to him and demanded money, cursing at the man as he did so. The man told police his attacker hit him once in the head with the butt of a handgun.
“After the incident, the victim received information from some of his customers that Mr. McHenry was the one who assaulted him, and our investigators checked into the information and obtained a warrant for his arrest,” said police department spokesman Bruce Frazier. “They did not know each other.”
The report shows the man went to the hospital; McHenry did not get any money. Officers recovered a loaded 9 mm magazine from the scene, which the man believed McHenry had dropped.
