J.R. Martinez featured in Los Angeles Times story

Former Dalton resident J.R. Martinez, an injured Iraq War veteran now starring on the soap opera “All My Children,” was featured in a Los Angeles Times story recently.

The story follows the 27-year-old Martinez on the set of the iconic soap opera, where he has appeared as Brot Monroe, a wounded war veteran who becomes a police officer. Martinez also discusses the bombing of his Army Humvee that led to his disfigurement, the multiple surgeries he has endured since, his role as an advocate for fellow wounded veterans and his acting career.

“Yes, there are times when I feel, ‘What am I doing here?’” Martinez told the newspaper. “I think, ‘I don’t belong among these people.’” But he added, “I know what I’m here for. It’s bigger than me. I’m here for all the people who are fighting the war, who have scars inside and out.”

Martinez was also among the cast members who appeared on the Daytime Emmy Awards Sunday night in Las Vegas to commemorate the 40-year-old soap opera.
