Many people have listened to J.R. Martinez speak about his experiences. Others have read about him in magazines and newspapers. Millions watched him on ABC’s hit reality show “Dancing With the Stars.”
Now, they will be able to read about his life story in his new book “Full of Heart: My Story of Survival, Strength and Spirit.” The book was released Tuesday and is available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple’s iBookstore and at retailers.

Martinez is a 2002 Dalton High School graduate, an injured Iraq War veteran, an actor, a motivational speaker and a past winner of “Dancing With the Stars.” Martinez was born in Shreveport, La., and lived in Hope, Ark., before moving to Dalton the summer before his senior year of high school in 2001. He resided here a short time after graduation, and considers Dalton his hometown.
In March 2003, Martinez was seriously injured in an explosion in Iraq, suffering burns to more than 40 percent of his body. His mother, Maria Zavala, still lives in Dalton, while Martinez resides in Los Angeles.
