Restaurant report card — Whitfield County


— Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit.

The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance with the regulations. Recent restaurant scores for all six counties within the North Georgia Health District are available at www.nghd.org.



Ridgewood Manor Nursing Center, 1110 Burleyson Road

Comments: Two bags of cheese were observed with date marking that included eight days instead of the allowed seven. Date of disposition was changed. When date marking, the day that the food container/bag was opened or the day the food was cooked counts as day one. Food may be stored for a maximum of seven days to avoid bacterial growth.

Comments: Self-serve bulk ice is not protected from cough or sneeze from customer. All self-serve foods must be protected from contamination of customer. Dumpster lid open. Keep lids down. Clean ceilings. Timing mechanism on hand sink must stay on for 15 seconds without re-activating.

Comments: A container of soap and chlorine solution was observed for wiping cloths. Use only water and chlorine at 100 ppm for cloths. New solution was made. Corrected on site. Wiping cloths observed on table tops. Always keep cloths in sanitizing solution when not in employee’s hand for use. All hot hold items had time as control. All times are recorded.

Comments: Hot chicken was stored in a lid-tight container and did not cool properly. Chicken was discarded. Proper cooling 135 degrees to 70 degrees (two hours) and then to 41 degrees (four hours).

Comments: Hand sink did not have soap for handwashing. All hand sinks must be equipped with hand soap. Potato salad was found out of temperature and no time is kept as control. It is held in ice bath, but ice has not been replenished. Ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous food must be maintained at 41 degrees or lower at all times. Replenish ice to maintain temperature. Beans, chili and cheese in reach-in did not have any dates marked. All ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous food must have a date indicating the day food was made or opened or have use-by date. Dates required to ensure that food is disposed of on time. Food may be used for a maximum of seven days with day one being day food was made or opened. Drying provisions were not readily available in restroom used by employees. Hand drying provisions and proper towels are required since restroom door has handle that must be used to open door. Needed for proper hand drying.



Dalton Depot,

110 Depot St.

Comments: Container of cooked chicken was observed between two containers of raw chicken. Ready-to-eat chicken was partially covered. Moved to top shelf. Cooked foods must be kept away from raw meats to avoid cross contamination and decrease chances of illness. Cooked chicken was moved. Corrected on site. Cheeses in salad bar cooler were found out of temperature. They were moved to walk-in cooler for rapid cooling since the cheese still had 45 minutes to cool before having to be discarded for lack of adequate temperature. Will come back in two weeks to check proper function of salad bar cooler.
