State to start resurfacing roads

— The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) says construction could begin soon on the resurfacing of State Route (SR) 52 and SR 201 in Whitfield County.

• SR 52: GDOT has just awarded a contract valued at a million dollars for a construction project to resurface this state route. The project includes 2.535 miles of milling and plant mix resurfacing on SR 52, beginning west of I-75 and extending to east of Abutment Road. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2014 at a construction cost of a little more than $1 million. Information on construction and lane closure schedules will be forthcoming before work begins.

• SR 201: GDOT also awarded a contract valued at nearly half a million dollars for a construction project to resurface this state route. The project includes 2.206 miles of milling, plant mix resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation on SR 201, north of the Cohutta city limits and extending to the Tennessee state line. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2014 at a construction cost of $439,960. Information on construction and lane closure schedules will be forthcoming before work begins.
