Restaurant report card — Whitfield County


— Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit.

The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance with the regulations. Recent restaurant scores for all six counties within the North Georgia Health District are available at www.nghd.org.

Iron Gate Pizzeria, 239 N. Hamilton St.

Comments: An open container held cheese and was observed stored next to a roll of raw ground beef (in original wrapping). Ground beef was “bleeding” on cheese. Cheese was discarded. All raw meats and ready-to-eat foods must never be stored next to each other to avoid cross contamination from raw meats to ready-to-eat foods. Many different cooked foods in a prep cooler were observed out of temperature in the 60-degree range. All were discarded (meatballs, pastas, lasagna, etc.). It appears that was no longer functioning. Thermometer read greater than 60 degrees and it was unknown how long it had been since it stopped cooling. All potentially hazardous food in cold holding must be kept at 41 degrees to avoid microbial growth.



McDonald’s, 1523 W. Walnut Ave.

Comments: Food prep workers did not wash hands between changing tasks such as working grill with handles and making/reheating tortillas. Wash hands regularly to decrease chance of contamination. Corrected on site. Food prep was observed picking up tortillas with bare hands. Tortillas were discarded. Gloves must be worn when touching ready-to-eat foods. Corrected on site. Sliced tomatoes in top prep cooler were found out of temperature. They had just been cut and must cool down to 41 degrees as fast as possible. Cheese in bottom prep cooler and homestyle cooler were found out of temperature. Cheese was placed in freezer to cool quickly. All ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous food must be stored and maintained at 41 degrees. Corrected on site. Cooked meats in hot hold unit were found out of temperature. Food is being reheated to 165 degrees before putting on hot hold again. All food in hot hold must maintain 135 degrees or higher. Re-heat all food properly before placing in hot hold (re-heat to 165 degrees for 15 seconds or 135 degrees for commercial cooked and packed foods). Corrected on site. Bottled water was observed on ground outside by the truck. Single-service items observed inside truck that hauls mobile food unit. All food and supplies must be stored inside mobile unit and 6 inches above floor. Food employee was observed wearing glove to touch handle while at grill, then reach for cooler door and reach for the cheese. She was going to reach for the cheese with that same glove. She was stopped and sent to wash hands and use new pair of gloves. Hands must be washed and new gloves worn before handling any ready-to-eat foods. Corrected on site.
