Fordham’s golf story to air today

From Staff Reports

— CBS is scheduled to air a segment today on Turner Fordham for its PGA of America “Beyond the Green” series about how golf has transformed lives.

Fordham, a Northwest Whitfield High School graduate and golf standout, is scheduled to be featured in a segment titled “Golf’s Healing Powers” that will air between 2 and 3 p.m. The University of Georgia marketing student was diagnosed with leukemia at 12 years old and turned to golf after she became unable to play basketball and softball.

“The non-contact sport served as her escape from the endless treatments and hospital visits,” said show spokeswoman Michele Kruchkowski Cooper. “Fordham capped her prep career in Georgia as a member of the girls’ public Class 4A high school state champion golf team.

“Turner’s leukemia returned in 2012, and while she is in remission, she is undergoing regular chemotherapy treatments. In the upcoming segment, Fordham shares how golf, along with the Georgia PGA Hall of Famer Lowell Fritz, helped save her life and inspired her ongoing recovery.”
