Convicted rapist sentenced to life

— A Rocky Face man was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for raping and sodomizing a homeless woman more than a year ago.

Superior Court Judge Cindy Morris sentenced Floyd Earnest Youngblood, 46, of 1570 Mount Vernon Road, to life in prison for rape, life in prison for sodomy, and five years in prison for making false statements to law officers for crimes officials said happened in December 2011.

A jury found him guilty on Friday of all three charges after deliberating a little more than two hours. His trial was last week.

Assistant District Attorney Ben Kenemer got his request for Youngblood to be sentenced as a “habitual offender,” a process that recognizes the need for a stiffer sentence. Youngblood had already been convicted of two burglaries in Whitfield County in 1989 plus stealing a motor vehicle in Union County in 1991. He was accused of rape in 1992 but acquitted at trial.

Youngblood has 30 days to appeal his latest case.
