Georgia’s 2014 primary is still 10 months away, but the battle between for the Republican gubernatorial nomination between incumbent Nathan Deal and Dalton Mayor David Pennington may be about to heat up.
Deal is scheduled to meet with local economic development officials this afternoon then attend a private fundraiser in Dalton tonight at Trevitt Hall. Pennington has a public fundraiser scheduled for the trade center next Thursday.
State Sen. Charlie Bethel, R-Dalton, is one of Deal’s hosts today.
“They wanted to get an update on economic development in this area, so economic development officials from Whitfield and Murray counties will meet with him,” Bethel said. “I’m sure they’ll let him know what activities they are seeing as well as what they see in terms of needs.”
After that meeting is finished, Deal will meet with supporters at Trevitt Hall at 5 p.m..
“It’s a kickoff for the re-election campaign in this area. It isn’t a rally. But it’s a chance for the governor to meet with some of his closest supports in this area,” Bethel said. “He had a big event at Lake Lanier last weekend, and I believe that he is in the process of rolling out his campaign around the state.”
Pennington will hold his fundraiser at the trade center next Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
“It is open to the public, and I hope to see a lot of people there,” Pennington said.
