Bozzie murder trial delayed again

A Dalton man accused of murdering a man by running over him with a pickup truck last June is now set to appear in court almost a year from the date his alleged victim died.

Frank Scott Bozzie was 47 when the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office charged him on June 10, 2013, with murder for allegedly running over and killing 54-year-old Horace Richard Morgan at Morgan’s home on Gay Street. Bozzie remains in the Whitfield County jail without bond.

Authorities said at the time that Bozzie had a confrontation with his ex-girlfriend at a nearby fast-food restaurant and later went to Morgan’s home where she and her new boyfriend were staying. Officials said Morgan told Bozzie to leave, and the confrontation escalated into Bozzie running over Morgan, killing him.

Bozzie had been tentatively scheduled to go to trial this month in Superior Court in Judge Jack Partain’s courtroom, but Partain postponed the case after defense attorney Amber Connell requested more time to prepare. District Attorney Bert Poston said prosecutors didn’t object to the delay.

Bozzie is scheduled to be back in court for a calendar call on June 9 so attorneys on both sides can state whether they are ready for trial on June 16.
