Suspect caught in Sunday shooting, girlfriend arrested (Updated 7:45 p.m.)

Orlando Ramirez, the suspect in an early Sunday morning shooting at a bar in Dalton that killed one security guard and injured another, was taken into custody today at approximately 4:30 p.m. in Marietta, Dalton police said. He was charged with one count of homicide and two counts of aggravated assault and is being booked now into the Whitfield County jail.

DPD investigators developed leads that Ramirez was in Marietta at the Harmony Meadows apartment complex on South Cobb Drive and contacted the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals’ Southeast Region Fugitive Task Force before leaving for Marietta. Surveillance was begun. Marshals and Cobb County deputies eventually knocked on the door of an apartment and Ramirez answered, the police department said in a press release. After a struggle in which a Taser was used, Ramirez was taken into custody. No officers were hurt, DPD said. A search of the apartment found evidence pertinent to the case.

DPD officers on Monday arrested Alexa Jiminez, 18, who the DPD said is Ramirez' girlfriend, on charges of making false statements to law enforcement officers and hindering the apprehension or punishment of a criminal. Police say she lied several times to investigators about contact with Ramirez and other things that helped him keep from being caught originally.
